Tight Rope Walker

This moth was so still on a thin blade of grass that it reminded me of a focused tight rope walker.

Expect the Unexpected

While on the trails, I came across this black and white caterpillar crossing from branch to branch on a practically invisible web.  Could not resist trying to capture the beauty in its details.  An internet search led to the realization that it will eventually be a Hickory Tussock Moth and it is poisonous!  Sometimes we must expect the unexpected.

Beauty and the Stinger

While strolling along the grounds of the Texas Discovery Gardens, a quick movement caught my eye.  A red and black wasp was walking from leaf to leaf.  With its elegant beauty, it did not appear threatening at all.  Alas, it did have a stinger!  Hence the name of this post – Beauty and the Stinger.

Red & Black Wasp

Red & Black Wasp

I hope that explanation of how I came up with this blog title at least made you smile a little bit.  No worries, I was not stung and no one else seemed to be bothered by the wasp either.

Texas Discovery Gardens

Texas Discovery Gardens

Both of these shots were captured at the Texas Discovery Gardens in Dallas, Texas.  On the grounds of the Texas State Fair, the gardens were definitely worth the stop.  Their butterfly house was the attraction that initially drew me to the gardens but I ended up enjoying so much more than just the butterflies.  Next time you are in Dallas, drop by the Texas Discovery Gardens.  This red and black wasp seemed as friendly as all the other Texans!
