A Trail to Remember

After hiking both trails at Pinhook Bog in Michigan City, IN., I left wanting to go back again.  And I have gone back, over and over again.  Neither trail is too difficult and both go through a beautiful forest. Either one is a trail to remember.

Bridge to Bridge

Not much chance of running into a menace while hiking from bridge to bridge along the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore trails unless you consider deer, squirrels, birds, raccoons, or adorable chipmunks a threat.

In the Month of May

Early morning frost in the month of May proved to be not much of a crisis.  With bright sunshine at daybreak, the coolness soon disappeared.

While some stand strong as spring emerges,  other trees have been uprooted and fallen along the trail.

While hiking the trails, be alert to what is around you.  There may be a hawk flying overhead or a deer keeping an eye on your from the woods.

A Barrier Without a Purpose

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

On the Little Calumet River trail, stands a gate.  An old, lonely gate with a street on one side, the river on the other, and without a fence or wall on either end.  In essence, a barrier without a purpose.

Gates are meant to block passage.  The Little Calumet River trail follows along . . . . .  the Little Calumet River, of course!  Hiking all the along the trail, I have yet to figure what this gate was supposed to block passage to on this beautiful section of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
